    Skateboard Trivia

    Did You Know...

Tony Hawk was on "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader" and donated his $175,000 winnings to build a skatepark. Not only that, he named the skatepark after the 5th grader who helped him win, the Nathan Lazarus Skatepark in Nederland, Colorado. Lucky kid!

The "ollie" is named after its inventor, Alan "Ollie" Gelfand. He was only 14 years old when he first did this trick, and it was only 3 years after he started skateboarding. He was a member of the legendary Powell Peralta Bones Brigade. "Ollie" is an official entry in both the Oxford English Dictionary as well as the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. Look it up!

What body part is most commonly injured when skateboarding? You might (or not) be surprised to hear wrists. Wear wrist guards & learn to fall on them properly.

There is etiquette in skateboarding! Check out our Safety page for some dos and don'ts.
